I rang a cab office to send a taxi to my kids school to pick me up… when it was time to ride home a fine Ghanaian brother turns up… Holds open the door, cradles my 3-year-old into the car while I did the bags and the baby… Cool we are in seated comfy and start to ride… Long story short by the time he drops me home we were laughing our lungs out like we knew each other since the year of Abraham… He said to me “African women cannot stand taxi drivers and apparently are the rudest passengers in taxis…” that made me embarrassed and sad!
THEN _ I took upon myself to remember some of the careers that outrightly put OFF some AFRICAN women ;
- TAXI driver
- Watch night (mayguard)
- Petty Trader
- Student (To an extent)And the list is endless, but joblessness is the ultimate number one.
Let’s think about it again and just break down the taxi drivers finances, flexibility to work when and how they desire, the autonomy , indicative of hands-on husbands, the patience, the fact that some are ridiculously educated and career men who drive cabs for the fun of it or as some sort of pass time.
They earned the highest incomes of £45,550+ according to 2012 BLS data, and some do this job as a transit career – all the above makes me wonder how many women have turned men down for the wrong reason _ really Good men !
